The Austin Science and Nature Center
Hidden in the midst of the hike and bike trails that lead through Zilker Park is an Austin jewel: the Austin Science and Nature Center. The nature center offers many educational and interesting features, including interactive displays, hands-on exhibits, science trails with recorded information at each stop, and a live wildlife collection.
The center also is home to the Discovery Labs, which include seven mini-labs that explore the study of mammalogy, ornithology, herpetology, and geology, and there are collections of butterflies, bats, and bones along with the labs and other displays. There is also an authentic Texas cave to explore, and eco-detective kits for children and young adults to study and make conclusions based on evidence they obtain while on the trails regarding the different sciences and ecologies in and around the center, reinforcing the participant’s learning abilities and critical thought processes while having fun.
There is also a Small Wonders exhibit with different insects, reptiles, bugs, and other small creatures, and the live wildlife exhibit features over fifty different types of wild animal life native to the central Texas area, including a large collection of owls, hawks, eagles, a red fox, a wolf, an alligator, and many other species, some with their young.
In the summer, there are many different camps held at the center for kids with emphasis on marine life, biology, and other scientific disciplines, and a breakfast with the birds series for younger children too. Currently, there is an interactive exhibit called the Naturalist Workshop and Trade Counter where children and young adults can study, view, experiment and trade among themselves the different rocks, bones, shells, fossils, and other interesting flora and fauna that they find, including microscopes and reference materials for their use, and staff members to assist and monitor them while they study.
An interesting feature which was fairly recently added to the center is the dino-pit where a simulated dinosaur environment has been set up for study of fossils, and other pre-historic finds, such as ancient bones, fossilized leaves and the like. Another very educational facility at the complex is the Beverly Sheffield Education Center which is housed in the old bathhouse at Barton Springs Pool, named for one of the first lifeguards at Barton Springs who went on to become the first director of the Austin Parks and Wildlife Department years later. Mr. Sheffield remained active at the center even after retiring from the city position, and he was commemorated for his many years of service and outstanding contributions to the Science and Nature Center and the Zilker Park area as well.
One of the most educational and interactive exhibits at the center studies the Barton springs ecology system along with the Edwards Aquifer and its many distinctive features, and the exhibit is called the Splash into the Edwards Aquifer. This exhibit also includes the study of conservation and the interactive exhibits include real life phenomena, live specimens, and working models so youngsters can study ways to contribute to the environment that relates to their community and lives.
The Austin Science and Nature Center is located at 301 Nature Center Drive, and the center is open most days until shortly after sunset, so if you want to see some really creepy crawly things, and find out how they work, where they live, and many other interesting bits of nature-related information, be sure to visit the center soon!

How To Be In Nigeria
Best time to be in Nigeria is December to March this is the time when humidity drops, even though no-win situation is that you might then suffer from grimy harmattan winds. If a little of sand on your face does not bother you, then you can go in Jan while you can be present at Sallah celebrations in the northern Nigeria that is followed by an Argungu Fishing Festival on banks of Sokoto River in February.
For tour towards south, then March to August are wettest periods to visit, and good if avoided. And the weather makes a note of of political expansions when setting up your trip. Even though country is normally calm, local problem can rapidly flare up, so when you are in Nigeria keep your eye on the news also get prepared to alter your plans at a very short notice if essential.
Weather
Nigeria is larger than Texas also temperatures are sizzling countrywide continual, peaking at around 35°C in spring; the moisture is also regular. Spring to summer is a hottest region of the year in north, at times topping out at severe 45°C. The mercury level drops down from October to January during the start of grimy harmattan winds. In north the wet season continues from May to October, whereas on the shore and inside there are wet seasons: a very long one from March to July as well as a brief reprise at September and October.
Getting There
The International airport Of Lagos that is Murtala Mohammed is 22km from Lagos. And taxis to the metropolis are as well available. Worldwide carriers fly regularly in and out of Lagos however due to usual fuel shortages, planned flights might sometimes get cancelled. Departure tax for the international airfare is US$ 35.00.
There can be passenger motorboat from, south of Calabar, towards Idenao, the small place located at 50km northwest of Limbe, however these are frequently suspended because of clashes on Bakassi Peninsula. Make sure about the security state before creating any plans, also avoid the enticement to take frequent cargo ships these are all smugglers’ boats. There are share taxis, which will take you via road to Cameroon, Chad, Benin, and Niger. The border crossings occupy dash given over to the customs officials in pleasing manner.
Getting Around
Air travel in Nigeria can be little confusing; it is because the scheduled flights get cancelled at a very short notice, and that leaves next flight over-booked. Good news is that the internal flights are extremely cheap and domestic flights generally leave from the domestic airport of Murtala Mohammed airport.
Traveling by car or bus is a safe and relaxed mode to travel and the lines connect the main cities. Also bus offices are inclined to cluster in similar area of the city. The bush taxis are fastest and most contented way to go around but they are very dangerous. The Nigerian drivers have little value for speed limits also accidents are often serious. Also there are trains that run in Nigeria but they are not very comfy and, as if to recompense for bush taxis, then travel at snail’s pace.

Time for Individuals and Businesses to start using On-Line Carbon Offsets Services
The UK Government announced in February 2008 under the Climate Change Bill a legal commitment to reduce UK carbon emissions between 60 and 80 pct cut UK by 2050. The Bill also introduces a carrot and stick system, the Carbon Reduction Commitment for large non-energy organisations and businesses representing around 10 percent of UK CO2 emissions from 2010 which will inevitably have a knock on impact on small businesses and consumers. Coupled with the European Emissions Trading system some fifty percent of net UK carbon emissions will soon be capped in some way.
However, with only a very small proportion of our energy today come from alternative sources which do not add to overall carbon emissions and with the Government’s central 2056 UK population forecast of 78.6 million, 30 percent higher than today, an absolute 60 pct cut in carbon emissions below the 1990′s levels the Bill when it becomes law will enable the Government to force every individual and business to think about their CO2 emissions and what they can do to reduce emissions.
Private individuals or even small businesses employing hundreds of people can’t afford the luxury of expensive consultants or staff to measure their carbon emissions and when they do these groups need clear actionable advice and easy cost-effective solutions with sensible pay backs measured in years and not decades.
Fortunately among the many carbon offset and environmental consultancy businesses some low-cost solutions to meet the needs of individuals and businesses are starting to arrive. Three or four companies, which works globally now provide on-line tools and do-it yourself advice on-line and by email to help individuals and businesses simply measure their CO2 emissions, reduce carbon emissions and if they want to go that bit further purchase high quality carbon offsets without the need for expensive consultants or to employ staff.
If individuals or businesses in the UK or around the world will be forced to start to measure and reduce carbon emissions or to go that bit further and purchase carbon offsets then the solutions are going to be needed on-line.

The Farmers’ Market: Think Globally, Act Locally
There’s probably no better place to practice the environmental awareness credo of “think globally, act locally” than at your local farmers’ market.
Here you will find lots of locally produced edible goodies, be they fresh vegetables grown organically at nearby farms, or freshly baked breads, cakes, muffins, pies, or cookies from the still-warm ovens of local kitchens.
Let’s take a look at some of the benefits of patronizing the farmers’ market.
First of all, the foods you get here will be fresher. Your local farmers are able to grow varieties that are bred for flavor and tastiness rather than varieties that are grown for their ability to withstand long periods of time in shipping and on the shelf. Many of the varieties of produce distributed to the large grocery store chains are picked and packaged long before they have started to ripen. Tomatoes and squash that you purchase in the big stores cannot possibly be at their peak of quality in terms of ripeness, freshness, and taste if they have spent more time on the road than Willie Nelson before they are even in place for your inspection and selection.
Being able to talk with the farmers who have grown the food is also a big plus in terms of finding out about their cultural methods. Do they use chemicals, pesticides, or genetically modified seeds? What is their background and how do they feel about organic farming and its effects on safe food production? Knowing where your food comes from and how it is grown and handled can be key in helping to ensure the health and well-being of your family, especially since we are dealing today with so many health issues that we still don’t fully understand, diseases that may be chemically or environmentally related or induced by the additives and preservatives in the foods we consume.
Buying locally also helps the local economy. Paying the local growers for their produce gives them money to spend and pump back into the community businesses, while it allows them to continue in their livelihood of providing more healthy foods for the people of that community. The circle of life continues.
Shopping at your local farmers’ market can even help the environment. The more locally grown food we consume, the less need there will be for foods hauled in from across the continent in large trucks spewing unhealthy emissions into the atmosphere. Also, in consuming more locally grown foods, less packaging material will have to be produced and discarded. Many times, live plants (which convert carbon dioxide to oxygen) are sold at the farmers’ market too, both annual flowers and vegetables as well as potted plants and hanging baskets of live and growing flowers.
Finally, shopping at the farmers’ market is just plain fun. Quite often, the markets have special days or festivals celebrating a particular kind of vegetable or food, complete with samplings and recipes for preparing these healthy foods. Other times, there is live musical entertainment or activities for the kids. Why not load up the family and have a learning adventure finding out about the nutritious locally grown foods and fun available at your local farmers’ market?

Earth day: the last polar bear’s cry!
I am a polar bear. I have been living in the Arctic for the last 5 years. I was born on an iceberg and saw my parents die shortly after my birth. My mother taught me how to fish for seals and bigger fish but I have seen none in the past weeks. The iceberg I was living on gradually melted and I fell-off of it when it could not hold my weight anymore. Since then, I have been losing weight rapidly because I have not eaten in days.
I am also wondering why is it getting so hot? My fur feels like a useless coat and I am very uncomfortable. I wished I could swim more North but I am at the furthest North point of the ocean…yet I am still very hot. I am wondering what’s wrong, what will happen to me.
Last week I had encountered a mother bear and her baby. I was very happy to finally have other polar bears to spend time with. My joy rapidly changed when I realized the mother was in agony from exhaustion and famine and the baby was not much better.
Once the mother died, I held the frightened little cob near me but felt very helpless. After it fell asleep crying, I dove in the ocean in hope to find any kind of fish to feed him. I swam desperately as fast as my paws could bring me…but I came back empty handed. My disappointment turned into rage when I realized the little baby bear had died, alone on the shrinking iceberg.
I made the resolution to survive no matter what difficulties would be ahead. I am determined to find a nice cold place, filled with icebergs and snowy land and where the ocean is full of seals and fish to satisfy all my needs.
The mother bear told me before dying that the melting of the snow and the disappearing of most animals is a consequence of what she called “global warming”. It was not clear what exactly caused this warming of the planet but she was certain that mankind’s pollution was responsible for a big part of it.
The mother polar bear was saying that man in his ambition to possess more and more useless toys had caused an imbalance in nature’s system. Their industries and cars were creating toxic gas that would have created a hole in the ozone layer, the blanket that used to protect us from the sun. This would, in part, explain why I was feeling so hot all the time and why there was no food to nourish me or even no iceberg for me to rest on.
As I was accompanying the mother polar bear in her last moments, she went on to tell me that most men did not accept responsibility for global warming. Hence, many men were inventing theories of nature’s bizarre behaviour instead of admitting their contribution to global warming. By the time they had realized that global warming and nature’s destruction was of their responsibility, the damages were done.
As mother polar bear was in her last dying breaths, she concluded: “Don’t worry, you will not be bothered by mankind anymore…as they have long disappeared from the earth!”

In This Post We Will Be Examining The Green DIY Energy System
More than likely you have noticed that even with todays economy, the price of everything continues to go up. Irrespective of the economy, the expense of energy is always going to increase year after year. This is the primary reason why more and more people are turning to alternative energy options to help lower the rising costs of electricity.
The dilemma is that buying solar panel kits is so expensive and one solar panel can wind up costing you over $1,000. We have a way to start using the power of the sun for a fraction of the price and here we will be checking out the Green DIY Energy system.
Save Money
You’ll learn how you can save $1.000, give or take, for each and every solar panel that you construct yourself rather than buying them. I don’t know if you recall but in 2007, people were paying over 1,000 to just purchase and have installed, just one single solar panel. I am really not certain exactly what the cost is now but I can almost assure you that it is considerably more due to inflation.
The fantastic thing about this program is that it can instruct you how to build your own solar panels for under $200 for each panel. Naturally if you don’t mind spending a little more time you can actually wind up building your solar panels for less than $100 each, but it will take a little extra work collecting materials.
The Components Can Be Expensive
Lots of people actually charge a lot of money for the components, but this program has found the cheapest places for you to get the supplies you need without shelling out a small fortune on them.
Upon there website you are going to even find a testimonial coming from a 12 year old that developed his very first solar panel. And when a 12 year old can get it done there is no reason why anybody should have any difficulty doing it.
Split Into Three
You will see that this product is split in to three portions. The very first manual will show you precisely how solar energy systems function and also clarifies how this is possible. The 2nd guide is essentially the step by step process of building your own solar panels. Additionally they leave absolutely nothing out as you will first learn to create the solar panel box with step by step guidance including how to hook all of the solar cells together.
The third guide covers the installation of the solar panels and the electrical wiring plans for linking multiple solar panels together and also how to use a number of batteries to store the extra electricity.
There Are Bonuses As Well
But then they even throw in a few bonuses together with this system. The 1st bonus they provide is one thing you should find very beneficial as it is over 1 hour of videos that walk you through the entire process of creating your panels.
This really is nice because some men and women learn better whenever they can observe someone else doing the work first. Most of you will also really like the 2nd bonus as it is a full guide that will teach you the precise way to develop your own wind turbine for producing electricity. So for anybody who would like to build their own solar power panels and start utilizing the power of the sun to power their homes this really is a great program.

The Perks of Madison Air Cleaning
When you live in the United States you become accustomed to having many things, such as central heating and cooling. More that eight out of every ten homes built here has one of these systems installed. They are so common that they are often taken for granted until something goes wrong. This is no different for those living in the Madison area.
One of the most effective ways to lower the costs of central heating and cooling your home is to maintain your system properly. The main thing you need to do is make sure you keep your air filters cleaned. You should do this on a routine basis. Making sure that you have clean air filters is important for two reasons.
The first one is to remove all of the harmful contaminates that are in the air of your home. These include dust particles, pet dander, bacteria, smoke, and other types of allergy causing contaminates. Keeping up to date on your filters also keeps your system running as efficiently as possible for a longer period.
With the help of your heating and cooling system you will be able to circulate the air through your home while removing harmful bacteria and other contaminates while creating a more comfortable room temperature. Keep in mind that there was a study that found the air in your home can be up to five times more harmful that the air outside if the home’s system was not properly filtered. Modern homes are made so well, they are airtight and therefore wont let harmful contaminates out.
You can either purchase new filters on a routine basis or you can choose the easier, more cost effective means of calling an air cleaning company. They will come to your home and change out the filters for you, removing the used ones for a recycled, guaranteed filter.

Waste Management Basics
As we observe our planet, our waste management issues today are more serious than we ever thought of, and these issues are no other than to blame but ourselves. Each of us citizens of earth contributed to the pile of trash that causes serious injury to our mother nature and reciprocates the effects to us. Let us take these waste management issues seriously or else what more is there left for the next generation.
To support the environmental protection, there are basic steps to follow to help save our planet. These are three simple ways to improve our environment: Collection of waste, disposal system, and recycling process.
Waste collection is generally done regularly by the workers assigned by the local government, or by collectors for recycling purposes. It is their duty required by the Environment Protection Act to collect and dispose their territories’ garbage. It is a requirement to properly clean their area of responsibility in the need to protect the health of the people around the area. Having one collector of waste can be beneficial to the society because the dump site of our rubbish will only be dump to one place, unlike the risk of individual waste disposal. Having one garbage collector can prevent the possibility an irresponsible waste disposal among the inhabitants of the community.
One other solution for waste management issues is having a disposal system. Whether the waste is solid, liquid or radioactive, all these trash are needed to go through proper disposal. Landfills and incineration are two ways to dispose our waste. In Landfills you bury the trash deep into the earth for a long time until the trash decomposes and the radioactive materials lose its hazardous elements. In incinerations, it is the burning of rubbish at a very high temperature. It reduces the waste, but it less likely to be used because of the harmful gases that it produces.
The last of the basic waste management and the most used by the majority is the recycling method. This method is commonly known today. In fact, many of the people today are gaining profit from reprocessing waste to a new item and sell it to the market. Recycling helps you obtain profit, gives new ideas to the community, offers a new set of new and creative products for the consumers, and the most important thing is that you help save our mother nature from dying.

Oil Pipeline Roots in California
The first oil pipeline to be built and operated in California was a project of the Coalinga Oil and Transportation Company. Completed in October 1904, the pipeline reached from Coalinga to Monterey, where it would be met by oil barges that would transport the California oil to Hawaii as well as other destinations for use as an energy source. The two mountain range traversing pipeline’s 104 mile stretch is not exorbitant by today’s standards, but at the time was noteworthy for its quick construction and high elevation. Though the pipeline at its highest point pumped oil more than 2,500 feet above sea level, an unprecedented feat at that time, it was built in just ninety days.
The pipeline system built by the Coalinga Oil and Transportation Co. included several oil storage tanks in Monterey to house oil pumped from the oil fields of Coalinga. Regular voyages by oil barges coupled with the use of the pipeline to transport oil from the fields created the foundation for a prosperous oil operation which lasted several years. Many people in the areas where the pipeline made American oil available began using this more cost effective source of energy to replace the coal they had used in the past.
On September 14, 1924, the sensation of the pipeline operation took a drastic turn. An intense storm brought rain, hail, thunder and devastating lightning to the area that would bring a harsh end to the oil operation that had been flourishing in northern California. Lightning struck one of the storage tanks in Monterey, igniting it in ferocious flames and sending ominous black smoke billowing into the sky.
News of the fire incited the arrival of droves of fire trucks in Monterey from all of the surrounding areas. Firefighters attempted to contain the fire to the burning tank as pumps removed thousands of barrels of oil in hopes of preventing another explosion. For hours, the fire remained contained to the tank and was seemingly under control, prompting many spectators in the area to watch the spectacle from afar. But the fire did not remain contained to the original tank for long. Several explosions followed, sending firefighters and locals fleeing for their lives as burning oil spilled across the land and water. The building of oil tanks was subsequently banned in the City of Monterey.
Parts of the original pipeline remain in place today, while others are preserved in museums. Today, oil companies such as Western Pipeline Corporation comply with stringent industry safety standards in order to prevent such catastrophes.
